It turns out my birth certificate bears the (fascimile) signature of Fiorello (The Little Flower) Laguardia (1882-1947), Mayor of the city of New York from 1934 to 1945. As Mayor he eliminated the crooked Tammany Hall political machine and successfully fought against vice and corruption. He was also the subject of the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1959 Broadway musical "Fiorello" | ||
